Info Fibre Ropes

Nowadays fibre ropes are being supplied in various types & sizes. Selection of a type and capacity should be considered with care as characteristics may or may not match the requirements. Ropes are often being used in below stated applications:

  • Mooring
  • Towing
  • Pulling
  • Lifting (to be considered carefully and in general based on SF 7:1)

Each and every application require specific characteristics on which we can advise. In general rope can be selected based on the below stated:

  • Level of stretch
  • Resistance against chafing
  • MBL
  • Floating or non-floating
  • Covered or non-covered
  • Suitability for winches / sheaves
  • Related Standard / Guideline

In general it should be taken into account that fibre ropes should be protected against chafing and contact surfaces as the quality will be affected. Therefore substitution in relation to steel wire ropes cannot be taken for granted as wire ropes may have affected contact surfaces. Make sure that contact surfaces are smooth and without sharp edges. At any time it is advisable to protect the rope at contact position. To do so we can supply multiple options in this matter.
